Levee tax heads to voters Saturday | HoumaToday.com: "Voters will have the final say Saturday on a quarter-cent sales tax increase for levee and drainage improvements in north Lafourche.
Money from the North Lafourche Levee District's proposed sales tax will be used to expedite drainage and flood protection projects for about 65,000 parish residents north of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.
Cory Kief, president of the district's board, said at stake is the district's ability to provide sufficient flood protection within a reasonable time frame.
"The sales tax is important to us because we're here as stewards of the people," he said. "The choice is theirs.""
